Tarring Neville and Littledene

Excellent to see this progressing - it's certainly a layout with real character. Very much look forward to seeing this move along

How did you go about making the curved baseboards?

Lovely stuff and I look forward to progress with interest, rather kicking myself that I didn’t make the (relatively short) trip to Solrail. I was also taken in by the excellent sign(s)!

Thanks Will. I'm no wood worker but I used a thinner ply on the front edge of the curved boards. Between the parallel support underneath there are diagonal supports. Once the top is added this all brings it to the right shape. I did it this way on Herstmonceux and had no issues.
Do you have any pics of Tarring Neville's lighting rig please? I like the double sided nature of it very much.
Thanks
Tony

Can't find the build pictures at the minute and the other layout is in the way but hopefully these pictures show enough for you. D4E36825-46AA-4AE9-A061-5A50546571A6_1_105_c.jpeg

The rig itself is removable so I can get it down the stairs and the two clips hold it in place. Where I have marked it with red circles there are three wooden dowels from the rig that go into the uprights. Again my wood working isn't great but it works enough for me.

Thank you, that's great, I really like how it works, what it does and how it frames the layout with very little visible support. Really super!
Cheers

Littledenne is looking absolutely spot on Andy. The second to last pic with the stock on the layout looks thoroughly convincing. The backscene works very nicely as well.

What is the make of the Hunslet? Is it scratch built or a kit?

Cheers Will.
I had a bit of a mental block for a few weeks trying to work out how to get what was in my head onto the layout. Getting the bushes and trees on the backscene finished has help move things along.

The Hunslet is a reduced 7mm Alphagrahix kits that a friend had a batch done in 4mm.

In the last week I have managed to get the last of the greenery in place except for a tree that needs making for behind the barn. Most of the smaller detail items have been painted and are just waiting to be put in place. The Manchester December deadline doesn't feel so bad now and I can focus on finishing the stock. Couldn't resist putting some stock on the layout for a few pictures.

Looking absolutely fab Andy. I particularly like the diesel loco in the first shot - very light railway appropriate. I hope Littledenne will be appearing at some shows down south as I'd love to see it in person.

What is at the end of the spur on the left? I don't think I've seen any photos from that part of the layout

Cheers Will. The diesel is a Armstrong Whitworth D10, its a High Level kit. Littledene should be at Uckfield next year.

The lefthand end is the barn and farm area for the Littledene estate.

That's great to hear. I'll make sure to pencil in the next Uckfield show.

I've just finished my RT Sentinel so might look at the D10 as a next step.

I like the arrangement of the barn loading dock in the headshunt. Looks like a good way to complicate operations!

Somehow I've missed all the posts on this superb pair of layouts until now....

Well making up for lost time what a stunning bit of modelling. Very appealing to the eye.

Could I ask a couple of questions?

Can't find the build pictures at the minute and the other layout is in the way but hopefully these pictures show enough for you.
The photos so some suspension wire system balancing the lifting rigs. Would it be possible to get some more details of how this system works please? Looks ingenious

The last building is finished
These a lovely flint wall section on this building. What materials did you use to make this?

Really inspiring modelling. Looking forward to seeing progress

The D10 is a nice kit to build, Well all the High Level ones I have built are nice to build.

Yeah the headshunt with the loading dock does help make thing more interesting, especially if you're using a coach as part of the shunt!

Basically the end that is attached to the fiddle yard acts as the cantilever point for the unsupported end. The central post has two turnbuckles which allow the unsupported end to be adjusted to get it level and take its weight. It doesn't actually move much, maybe 1cm vertically, which is surprising considering my dodgy woodworking skills!

The flint is done using air dry clay. I put a small amount of PVA on the surface before adding the clay. While the clay is still wet I press a piece of brass rod into it to add the flint shape. This picture is one of the buildings that is on Tarring Neville

Managed to get Littledene to a point where i'm happy with it and ready for Manchester. 801BEBB8-8814-44B3-8754-AE99D389239C.jpegThe small details are all added and most of the stock is ready. One item I have been working on is an LNWR Double veranda Inspection Saloon. This will be in OVLR colours and used by the investors of the railway.

Lovely to meet you on the weekend Andy. Littledenne is looking absolutely superb. The inspection saloon is a good idea - whose kit is it?

Disappointed I can't make the Manchester show, but December is always a bit of a tough month for modelling-related activities. Drop me a line if you ever need an operator for Littledenne at future shows!
