I have never seen anything like that  Best bet is to get some N/S and make a new one, you will never fit it to your satisfaction.

Not such a bad thing I guess... It means that I could use the new sheet to show the side of the firebox between the frames perhaps..

Ah well...  (  :headbang: again )

I don't know - I've seen worse. A little gentle stroking (oooh errr!) with a rawhide mallet might get it back to shape but it would take time.

A nickel-silver replacement might be the quicker option!

Having seen 'it' can confirm that I've done one like that .........'fraid it's another bit of brass/nickel  and start from scratch and don't crank up the rollers too far........look on the bright side ....it's a parallel job  ;D

Don't throw it out. You could make a smokebox or splasher tops with it. John is right. Too much pressure on the rolling. Alternatively flatten it out and use it as template to make another one out of 10 thou sheet.

Yes I think a new boiler would be for the best... It needed chopping down anyway as it'll have a fully detailed smoke box like the L1 I think..

Really shouldn't be too difficult to measure out the boiler size using the old pi/r/2 (didn't have a symbol for pi on my phone..!

I shall need to find a local brass/nickel silver sheet supplier in East London. Either that or wait for Reading in a few weeks time.

Sorry to hear of your boiler trouble JB.  Have you considered modeling diesels?  ;) :D

It's interesting to find out the cause of it - I'm hoping to be rolling some tank barrels in the not too distant future, so will have to try very hard not to do the same thing.

Hi Pugsley,
Just take your time and only bring the back roller in a turn at a  time. Rolling something like a tank should be fairly easy. JB's problem might have been the brass which can be very soft. Nickel silver or tinplate is better.
Good luck!

Annealing brass , i have never liked to do this either - sometimes with kits it has been nessasery but not of choice i would rather use 10 or 15 thou niclke silver straight through the rollers, i replaced the boiler and smokebox of this kit for that reason.

That's a very polite word Fred, I'm sure we all understand how you feel from time to time. As for the finished models, absolutely fantastic   .

Thanks for the advice Graham - looks like I'll be getting the parts etched in NS and not Brass then!
