Wonderfully sharp clean modelling, very impressed and more strength to your elbow. I know what you mean about real world getting in the way ! However what you have done is a great example of 2mmfs modelling.

I knew you would need some sort of back story to create the industries.
Agreed, a backscene can do a lot of heavy lifting here for sure but I'm also replacing the fiddle yard board with a scenic board which will give me more space to flesh out the industry.

The main reason for the extension is to close off the scene so no complex track work but it does have that benefit.

Just a quick update on what has been happening with the layout. I essentially took a break and worked on getting my stock working. I did have an attempt at finishing the Class 08 but that has been a failed project overall I'm afraid. I finished what I could to practice and I've attached an image below. The issue in the end was with the 3D printed cosmetic chassis provided by the association. I think mine had warped over time and wasn't treated so I just couldn't get the clearance on the wheels.

There are small changes made to the layout in the meantime, I ditched the idea of the buildings in the previous post because I just couldn't get it to look better than the 2 "temporary" buildings I knocked up. I have started to put a retaining wall in and secured the bridge and completed the road. I'm not happy with the paving and that will be revisited, only basic base coats of paint have been applied. I've filled the expansion lines in the yard somewhat as they were far too pronounced and the paint there now needs muting.

The crux of the problem with my builds is I've never have a enough space or light to work effectively so I'll be addressing this over the winter so the layout has been moved from the spare room and I'll be converting the garage into a space where I want to spend time. Insulated doors are on order and by next summer I should have completed the semi-conversion. In the meantime I've used the spare room to repurpose the stand into workbench where I can focus on stock, buildings and anything else that takes my fancy.

The layout itself will benefit long term I'm sure of that.IMG_3191.jpeg

I am drawing some inspiration if you like from this image as it pertains to the track plan. I think I read that this siding served a food manufacturer but I'm not 100% on that.

Along time since this picture in your thread it is indeed food processing plant
It was batchlors food processing at wadsley bridge just out side Sheffield on the Woodhead route
Great progress on the layout
