Don't forget the laser is concentrated by a lens just 25mm ish from the work surface. Any reflected rays that manage to travel exactly right through the lens will loose focus way before hitting anything.

I'll ask the question but I'm sure there is zero risk from trying to laser reflective materials (Especially as glass mirrors are Laserable). I will report back. :)

How about spraying a piece of mdf with some marker paints - a grey metal primer and a white matt enamel, maybe even an emulsion - and see what effect a low power thin laser line has?

Guess that's why the 'big boy' lasers for metal add another digit to the price-tag......!

I would love to try delrin sheet CNC machined as chassis sides. I was well advanced in a design using said technology for HO scale nefarious purposes several years back but never got to prototype it. Essentially just a high-accuracy replica of what RTR manufacturers end up producing injection-moulded in the same material. Oh, the fun things I could make with a CNC.... where are those extravagant inheritances from long-lost relatives when you want them....
