Sorry folks - it's not large scale, it's mostly not Western Region, it's not entirely serious and it's back.....

Spurred into action by helping to sort out a late friend's model estate and the realisation that at 10 and 12 my quickly growing up and mostly non railway orientated sons are still susceptible to playing trains, I set to with some old doors and my jigsaw to resurrect the great Marshcastle Orbital Project down in the old kitchen

First off here is part of the new "real estate"



Note cunning lift out section across doorway, currently great for banging your head on!



Just for Jordan, here is a special works train testing new trackwork.

Mine would be quoting divorce, or hanging drawing and quartering if I even thought of putting one there, it's bad enough sweet talking her into using the spare bedroom as a modelling workshop ( have we got a smiley for grovelling?).

In my defence I would point out that this is the former kitchen, we had a small extension built into which I put the kitcheny stuff.

Also, as part of the "enabling arrangements" the old room has lots and lots of storage for files and paperwork, plus a workbench and desk for all of us to use. It also has the central heating boiler which I had to disguise/box in and a stack of pipe and wire runs that I also boxed in, so it was never a very good candidate for a "proper" room.

Nonetheless I count myself very fortunate in being able to inflict model railwayery on an inside room inthe house.

Charlie is currently running trains instead of eating breakfast, so it is proving popular with its target audience

Mrs Miggins isn't too pleased about the re-opening and the dodgy developer who put up a quasi "Emmerdale" des res in the old "Light Weight and Flimsey" yard when the line was disused is about to lose his investment as its been deemed too close to the running line.

The traffic hasn't got any better either

Silliness apart, what is good about the current set up is that trains now depart across the level crossing. The point will be a junction for two bi-directional lines so my old conceit of a C2 line across the level crossing is totally busted.

This will mean (in theory at least) the reinstatement of some sort of signalling.......

None of this is instead of G1, just a bit of light relief and a place to run our collection of trains.

By the way, there are a few more distinctly dark side trains that could appear, although I am having a clearance problem with drooping Kadees and the level crossing at the moment. I managed to knock the coupling off my F40PH* last night

A proper 'old skool' train set, built for fun and running what you like.
Often thought of doing a similar thing to run my collection of Triang/Triang-Hornby stock.

Sometimes when you are just playing you forget about the usual issues of standards, scale, couplings etc and simply enjoy it

Often envy the innocence of youth when you can play without worrying that this loco shouldn't run with that coach or whatever.....

Ah, locos from the right part of the world - often seen from the environs of Deptford Park, going to/from London Bridge/Bricklayers Arms - but not quite that clean!

Oh dear, I feel a right fraud perpetrating this thread after all my MRJ pontificating, "never mind eh?" (As Charlie aged 10 says in his slightly cheeky way when something hasn't gone quite right for someone else)

Well after Jordan and Ian's comments about HST "fillings" I was going to fess up to having bought a rather down at heel pair of (nearly matching) power cars a while ago and that after I had got the power car working and bought the missing coupling off e-bay, (we are still after a spare "light cluster" if anyone's got one going spare) we currently use Mk 1s as coaches.

Well blow me, upon descending from catching up with old MRJs in bed this morning, I was confronted with a rather unusually configured train in Marshcastle's platform....

One of my favourite small trains is this combination of quite old Jouef with quite modern Bachmann starter loco, garnished with remains of Mainline Standard 4 motion

It works surprisingly well.

Considering that I am really committed to my 1/32 stuff and didn't think I'd bought much in recent years, I seem to have quite a few nice trains from the more recent era.

Here is my Hornby 08, renumbered as the one that lifted the track on the Midland line into Bath, hauling some of my "proper" OO freight stock.

I thought that last year when sorting through a load of OO to part-ex for my kick start into 1/32.
Found a load that I'd forgotten about and worse still some that I didn't even remember buying...

Like the Jouef bodied tank; I have a thing for small freelance(ish) locos and an obsession with triang Hornby Dock Shunters for some bizarre reason too

I like the U S dock tank .The image of the crossing looks a bit like Radstock west im surprised you got the triang locos to run on code 75 . did you play about with the flanges and back to backs?
