Good evening - A couple more shots of Bulldog for you - its started to look a bit more complete now - although I've just loose fitted the buffers and headcode boxes for the photo - The bufferbeam is looking a bit bare at the moment - Ive got air control pipes to add - from my spares box , as they aren't supplied in the kit - and I've got to make a pair of blanking plates to fit where the locos original jumper sockets were removed just inboard of the buffers. A nice cast coupling guard plate is included in the kit , they're were from the locos later on in life. At the moment I'm filing bits of clear plastic to glaze the headcode boxes , and of course deciding what headcode to fit. Will - weathering - I'm not sure actually - ill have to ask the owner what he'd like done to the model - personally I'd like the sides left clean. dunno if the real locos ran long enough to get absolutely filthy
With this kit i found the body castings had a slightly more sandy texture than others - its not a big deal as one can simply polish them with wet n dry , but on this model there's an awful lot of rivets in the way ! so paiting took an awful lot of thin thin coats to flood and level everything out - think I've got away with it/

Nice to see a 600 loco in another scale, I have a Fred Phipps one to do in 1/32nd. Firstly D600 and D602 definitely had blue roofs, yes the roof area faded quite dramatically once the loco's were stored, also the light reflection from overhead can be deceiving. for detail around the bogies and fuel tanks see attached images, which I purchased many years ago.

Great stuff Jon.

One thing that stands out to my eye is that the wheels look a bit too lightweight. They look more like wagon wheels than loco wheels. Are there any with thicker rims?

Hi Jim those are standard slaters tender/pony truck wheels and i agree they look a bit weedy, unfortunately the effect isnt helped by the spokes - the warships should have 11 , but the only wheel of the correct diameter is a ten spoke. I'd be amazed if someone made 'proper' 7mm wheels for the D6xx - they are available in 1/32 though
Thanks for those photos Mr Viking , could have done with those earlier - theres some very prominent detail on the inner end of the bogie that I've not seen so clearly in other photos - associated with the braking system I assume - I'll have to have a look at at that, although Ive already made a start weathering the chassis.

The driving wheels aren't the same as a Class 22? Slaters do correct ones for that loco...

The drivers should be identical id have thought , unless anyone knows better? but then the smaller idler wheels would still be different/odd and lackIng a bit of chunkyness on the model. I cant see an NB profile 3'3" wheel for the smaller ones. The wheels came with the kit in this instance, I wonder , is the logic perhaps to have the wheels looking consistant, hence deliberately using slightly wrong tender wheels throughout? The wheels on these locos are quite visible so that approach sort of makes sense , but then on the other hand being so visible mean you notice the profiles.... hmmm so consistency or accuracy (both would be nice )

Hi Dave - the middle sets supplied with my model are the 7839 BR - I notice on Mark Woods website an LMS pattern wheel is suggested as the best match for the middle wheelsets - but is that what the Slaters wheel is supposed to be (Slaters own description calls them Stanier pattern) the spokes and rim on Slaters looks very different to the protoype , and different again to Marks wheels - those I assume are right.
Back to looking at the inner ends of those bogies now though...

Getting a little bit closer now - The glazing is in, roof and bodyside grilles have been stuck on . I gave the NBL plates a quick dip in some diluted blackening solution to tone them down a bit. One last last little job still to do is glaze the tail lights and give a some more detail weathering to the bufferbeam areas and noses , but I want to keep the loco looking quite clean and sortof freshly painted looking.

Good evening - Tail lights are in and its job done - well it wasn't quite that simple - I redone some of the glazing as I wasn't happy with the 2 piece windows on the bodyside doors - they look a bit neater now but were fiddly to sort out. Funny my camera doesn't pick up the mesh on the horn grilles. I went for a lighter colored softwood to make the display base - it just seemed to work better with the color of the loco to my eyes - the wood is given several coats of dutch oil , then flattened and polished to a lovely shine.
