7mm Is this a kit or scratch built?

Can anyone help me identify the model source of the wagon in this picture please? Even the original GW wagon is hard to track down, although I think the number is correct!

Thanks for the suggestion. I have sent an enquiry. I thought the original was a 'Crocodile' wagon class, but having reviewed a list of all of the class built up to 1920 it seems not to be as their number series started 41xxx and this is 40xxx. Also the shallow sloping frame from the top of the bogie to the low point in the well is quite distinctive and unlike the right angle drop in the crocodiles.

I think it's meant to be a steam roller wagon designed so that the roller could be driven or winched on and off; for most wagons coded Crocodile, a crane would be required. Not sure what this one is though but an earlier pattern of roller wagon was available as a kit:

The roller is a Duncan Models kit for a Wallis and Steevens 'Simplicity' for which a wagon of that size is overkill!

Hi Richard

The wagon appears to a Loriot R as shown on page 54 of "A Pictorial Record of Great Western Wagons", J.H. Russell, Oxford Publishing Company, SBN 902888 01 3. The description states that it was the only bogie wagon in this class and the photographs show it in GWR livery in 1950. The running number is not given and cannot be identified from the photographs.

It's listed in GWR Goods Wagons by Atkins et al as a diagram F3 'Truck for Road Roller and Water Cart' rated at 25T, Tare 16-10 built in 1913. There was a second vehicle (40992) but that was converted to a diagram F4 in 1928, designated Loriot R and renumbered 42031.

Forgot to mention earlier that a 7mm scale kit is listed by Scorpio Models in their advert in the Guild Gazette:
