Thanks for all the words of encouragement. Finally picked up Part 1 and Part 2 today. Hmmm......  Suddenly I remember why I like those lovely clean JLTRT resin castings.........
its a bit of a blast from the past isn't it? I absolutely detest cleaning up w/m castings, so good luck

I've always found that single cut files are best for white metal and plastic for that matter. They don't clog up so much and waste material tends to fall out of the teeth more readily.

WOW  Fantastic. You have done a cracking job Ian:thumbs:

Rob
Woah, Rob. I can't take the credit for the lovely job on D1016.... she's just temporarily with me for the sound/lights & fans fitting.... couldn't resist the photo opportunity though!

MFYP does it for me, can I ask what paint you have used for the maroon?
For the same reason, Cynric, I can't be sure of the maroon paint used but it looks to me like a JLTRT maroon paint with a gloss finish overlaid with a satin varnish after weathering. Anyway, it's a lovely job, and one I'll be trying out for myself when I get around to doing D1028 MFYE......., but I've a few others to finish first! D1063, D1009, D1022, D1065, D1062 and D1013 are all currently in the workshop along with D1054 and D1016..... My Swindon "A" Shop should really look the part with these........ if I ever get that far!

He he he.....
It needed much guile and coercion, a twist and a turn, and no little amount of subterfuge....... plus 5 like minded individuals who paid £100 deposit to make it happen ;)

Unfortunately, I believe they could only manage a very limited run due to certain parts being out of production and they put some of the parts for these few kits together from some old stock. I'm told there won't be any more so if you can get your hands on a kit I'd recommend you do so (saving JLTRT get around to this one, or Heljan have so much success with the Western that they feel compelled to follow up with a 42/43, or Fred drops down as scale!)

Anyway, I'm the proud owner of two kits (one with Richard Dockerill so we've some competition on the builds!), and a first look at the castings suggests I have my work cut out on this one...... hmmm... More to follow.

As much as i admire the offerings in 4mm today i could not go back to it, i must tell you that i have picked up a ready built 43xx at a show and have stripped it back as far as i cabn to the body hopping that it had all been glued together, but allas the body has be soldered to some form or another som a fair bit of filling and fetling will ensue. I will finnish it in Green as a local engine and see what it does, will be looking for a new set of gears for the bhular motors on one bogie as none supplied.

best of luck with the build Ian - I know how you feel - I did a DJH Deltic a few years back and the main body joints were shaped like distorted horseshoes - had fun and games with DJH to supply new body castings, they agreed to take them to Halifax, then denied the arrangement, but I persuaded them to reshape the castings at the show = especially as the 'audience' was growing while I was in full complaining mode. Got there in the end, but I won't be doing anymore of their offerings.

cheers

They look super, has anyone found a sourse for chromatic blue !!!.
Hi Fred,

Love your replies, and the Deltic show just what can be done - very nice.

As for this latter comment, there remains much debate as to whether any such livery actually existed??? Wasn't it just a rail blue with SYE? Warrior and Empress didn't appear to be discernably different whether SYE of FYE from the colour shots I've seen...... but still a good one for debate!;)

Just a thought, but did Swindon actually have the Rail Blue paint specification when BSYP was applied ?
I'm just wondering if BR (WR) guestimated Rail Blue before the paint spec was made available ...........interesting stuff though
