Just some updated photos of the collett. ... Will start to reassemble the chassis next week after a stiff drink
Respect   Whilst struggling with 7mm at the moment, I have no idea how you guys manage this sort of thing in the smaller scale..... [/quote:2rghedlz]
Looking at the quality of those castings  makes me wonder why we get such garbage castings from some manufacturers in 7mm :vista: :headbang:

Thank you for your comments. I must admit it was most satisfiying when everything waggled correctly on the rolling road now I have to put it back together again  . The smokebox, boiler and firebox are all screwed together so can be broken down into separate units also the complete unit is removable from the running plate. At present I am toying with the idea of making the leaver reverse operational as all the drop linkage between the frames is moveable  .

Because no one complains and sends them back for a refund. Or at least, not many do.

Yes that's true, but the non-complainers tend not to go back for more kits, which is why they probably don't sell many  .

Back on topic though, Pete you are making an excellent job of this kit

Here we are again with the next instalment. I have now fitted the reverser rod (which is operational), sanding rods, saddle overlays, roof, bottom steps, cab handrails, smokebox ring and dragbox. I tried to make the smokebox handrail but had some issues :headbang: so I have had a break from it for now!!
I have now started on the backhead and I need some info, does anybody know where I can obtain a photo of the layout of the collett goods backhead as I can only use the diagram so far that Martin supplies in his instructions.

Pete,

I can recommend the GWRJ, I got hold of a copy to help with a Springside 2251 in 0-gauge (still not built!).

I have done inside valvegear in a couple of my German HO models, so I know it's a bit of a fiddle.  Well worth it: - even if only for all the 'oo' and 'aah' comments when you show anyone  ;)  Well, that's if they don't end up thinking you're barmy!

Oh, and you have a PM..

Thanks guys
I hope to get some photos of the chassis soon in close up and backhead (I am asking my sister-in-law as she does photography as a hobby).

Hi guys
Now for another instalment of the continueing saga of the Collett goods. I know that I said that I would not go overboard on the footplate/backhead detail but after looking at the photo of a Collett goods in Ian Rices book on etched loco building it looked rather bare. So my sister-in-law turned up with her camera and took these photos tonight for me. I still have to fit and make the reverser, pipes off of the main train pipe to the A.T.C equipment, battery box, sanding lever, drain cock lever and, vacuum gauge the A.T.C warning bell. I hope it does not look too coarse but it is in 4 mm. Also there are some of the waggley bits between the chassis ( the wheels are now ready for refitting).

Hi Pete,
Just had a pleasant time reading through your thread, some really fantastic work you have done there. It sure is good to another 4mm scale modeller here.
The Collett is also one of my favourite locos and yours looks superb, as for the inside motion

Cheers,
Geoff

Hi Guys
Its been awhile since I have posted anything but finally got round to it ( I apologise for the photo quality I will be looking for a new camera in the sales.). The loco is now ready for the paint shop now once it has been cleaned. One thing that Dan commented on when he last saw it was the working reverser rod and the drop links that life was too short:drool:

I see you found the missing camera lead at last! Despite the fuzzy pictures, I can confirm that Pete has made a very nice job of this kit.

Now that it's effectively finished, I expect to see the Finney West Country take residence on the workbench.... :D

It's been awhile since I have posted any progress on the progress on the Collett but Trying to find time through the summer/early autumn with a young family is not easy. But at long last I have got back to the modelling bench (Dan has been asking if I got into my shed over the last few weeks). It seems with our hobby (at least with me) is gone step forward 2 steps back as I was not 100% happy with the paint job on the chassis and I needed to resolder the delivery pipes from the injectors, so it was off to our local car part shop to purchase some cellouse thinners and as I type the chassis is in a jar of said thinners. I hope to post photos in the near future of the whole locomotive in primer.
