We had pawprints on the street at the back of the Greater Windowledge Railway, which was, I suspect more than circumstantial evidence of feline misdemeanours. Good job the foam board was up to the job!

I suspect, having found little of interest, he’s not bothered with PD Loco (and it’s perhaps a little more awkward of access too, not that that would dissuade a determined moggy), and, well, what’s a cat to do, in this hot weather…

This was the 'incident' which seemingly led to the depositing of fur........

I think, Rob, that you need to offer the cats something even more attractive and soft than the luscious grass of Bleat Wharf, maybe a cardboard box lined with something soft and comfortable, with some cat biscuits hidden at strategic locations within said box.

Or what works here, I just let the Assistant Deputy Chief Supervisor sleep on my modelling chair and I do something else...!

The Works Forecat used to kip on the modelling chair until a failure to pay attention on my part led to me sitting on her........

The WFC was understandably miffed.

Well, to bring things up to date, Bleat appeared at the Stafford show last year and was sold on shortly after. So the third layout in the series making up the Sheep Chronicles thus far has left the pen. The other two, Sheep Lane and Mutton are very active on the exhibition circuit "Oop North".

The intention was that the space vacated by Bleat would be occupied by a new layout ( not the Quicky layout detailed elsewhere which itself has gone to a new home following a failure of interest ). However, as of yet that hasn't been the case.

The sale of Bleat has however cemented my initial thoughts that it should have been dismantled rather than sold on, a conclusion arrived at for a variety of reasons. Going forward then, I will no longer be selling my layouts..preferring to store pending recycling of recommisioning.

So, here endeth the tale of Bleat Wharf, a layout which perhaps should have been rebuilt and/or recommisioned but wasn't. I of course learnt from it's construction and would now do things differently which is arguably what this is all about.

Will there be another Bleat Wharf ? There may well be in the future, perhaps as part of a larger S&DJR project for which there is a desire but for now, I need to put the empty space to good use...............

Sorry to hear of your sale regret! Not sure what someone could of done to it to make it so.
Unless they moved it on for a profit! Anyway enough of supposition! You live and learn as they say.
Something S&DJR you say! Now that would be great to see, would it be a might of been or an actual place?
I‘d like to see you do a tunnel/tunnels!
What about Ham Wood viaduct into Windsor Hill Tunnels. Quarry plant disused signal box or used signal box and quarry sidings! There you go your starter for 10! As Bamber Gascoigne would put it!
But for now as you put it.
Theres always lambregis to fall back on .

You could always cross La Manche into SNCF territory - Quai du Bêler? or for a joke :) Bélier-sur-Brebis

or der Nordsee for DB and NS - Blökenhafen? Blaatkade, Blaatwerf?

or even round t'corner t'Tyrrhenian Sea for FS - Molo di Belare?

Hi Ade,

As I say, a variety of things have drawn me to arrive at that conclusion. No one thing in isolation.

But for now at least a slight lull in proceedings.

Don't tell me - someone used it as an altar to offer a sacrificial burning Pannier Tank to appease the gods of Malachite Green.
Who could possibly do such a thing??!!   ;)

He hasn't come anywhere near it.............

No, since posting yesterday, I've been contacted by Tim who purchased Bleat and advised all is well and Bleat is being enjoyed in it's new home. Not sold on and not being used to sacrifice Panniers on.

Which is good to know.

Bleat Wharf welcomes panniers. No harm will become them here.

Bath Green Park allocated 8745 enjoying a day out on the Somerset levels..

Lovely image, Tim.

Good to see a S&D engine gracing Bleat's metals, despite the fact it's from the dreaded 'Western but as it's a Pannier there's no offence taken !

Now, what about that delightful little Sentinel that you brought with you when you collected the layout ?

Rob.

Sorry Rob, what do you mean by dreaded Western? Iam greatly affronted.

Hi Alan,

Well, Bleat Wharf was conceived as being a small goods yard on an off shoot from the Bleatwater branch of the S&DJR. I, like many others think that the beginning of the end for the S&D was the transfer of the Bath to Henstridge section ( and the remaining branch ) to the Western Region on 1st February1958. That’s why the paint scheme for the buildings and signage on Bleat was pure Southern, reflecting pre-take over.

Any future S&D layout I build will retain that approach. There’ll be no chocolate and cream shenanigans depicted there upon. Nope all green and cream with a mixture of L&SWR/Southern, Midland/LM&SR and of course S&DJR signage.

Favourite scheme would be a take on Edington Junction, or Eweington Junction where the Bleatwater branch joined the “main line” to Highbleat and the run through to Burnlamb on Sea. 1P tanks, 3 and 4Fs and Ivatt 2.6.2Ts.

No Western interlopers I’m afraid........
