Kitson Taff Vale/GWR Class V 0-6-0 Saddle Tank - Did Kitson supply similar engine to other companies

Whilst talking to Chris Basten (Dragon Models) today, I was rather taken with his model of a Kitson, Taff Vale/Great Western V class Saddle Tank.

Because I could quite fancy one I wondered did Kitson supply similar saddle tanks (that could be sensibly built/adapted from this kit) to other railway companies or industrial users?

If the thought of GWR livery is such an anathema to you... then buy some Land Rover Deep Bronze Green and a pair of rose-tinted glasses.

Hi Graham, I believe that they were actually black not green - but why would one have strayed so far from home........

I've always felt the South Wales locomotives of this era were quite unique to the valleys - big tanks, biggish wheels. I've not come across anything similar in minor railway use or in industry, with the exception of the side tanks which migrated to the north East coalfield. That said I don't have access to a detailed Kitson history to substantiate my view.

Looks like the best justification would be colliery use, so you'd best join the covert NCB group - we meet once a month behind the GWR LAYOUTS FOR RECYCLING skip at the rear of the WE clubhouse ;)
