Another Blue Flyer gets worked on

My first attempt at doing something in O gauge after being inspired by the conversion I have seen.
I particular like the Hymek having seen them in use in late 60s and early 70s.
The progress so far. I have tried a bit of weathering on the bogies and some work on the body.

Don't know how photos will come out had some problems

The progress so far, I have not fitted the cab top yet as there is lots left to inside and also the glazing to fit.
Need to get some Headcode digits next they only seam to be avalable in big quantities and are a bit pricey for some stickers.
Was hoping some one may do a sticker or transfer set for the Hymek but havent found any supplier.
This is my first attempt at converting or making any thing in 0 gauge so sorry if it looks a bit rough. A lot more work to do yet!

Have made some more progres with the Hymek the cabs are glazed and fited,.
I have instaled a simple radio control and new battery holder that takes six AA giving me 9 volt this runs both the reciver and gives power for the drive motor. Have kept the original Triang motor as this will be ok for the intended use of this Locomotive.
Decided to use radio control as this eliminated having to change the wheels and fit pickups. Also I can use it on non powered tracks.
Next on the list is to fit sutable couplings also could do to make some air tanks. Have made replacement fuel tank as the engine did not come with one.
So far I am resonabley happy with how its looking, my atempts at hand rails are perhaps not the best!

Today I have been making some windscreen wipers, They are made from some brass and soldered together. I have included a photo showing the set up inside the loco. The red box is the reciver, it came very cheep with transmiter brand new. Its intended for cars but works ok at controling the Hymek. The controler can handle much more power then I am useing and came with a powerful motor. So should I wish to upgrade the Hymek with new better wheels and bogies I will be able to do so. Next on the list to do is fiting couplings and I nead some Headcode numbers.

I thought that was the light at the end of the tunnel!!
Looking good, try CPL diesel loco couplings..they are superb!

Very nice coupling, there is a lot of detail on your Hymek. What body does your locomotive have?
I always wanted a blue flyer when I was a lad in the 1960s. Never got one!

I have bit the bullet and sent for some 7mm high ones, rather expensive but will have plenty for any future prjects.

Today have been making up one of the headcodes for my Hymek. I read the instructions first, that came with the code kit and they only confused me. But I remembered that I had seen on Youtube some one showing how to do the headcode using the kit. So had a look atthe video and its easy when when you know how!

Tried lighting up the destanation number looks OK but only had a blue led will look better with a yellow one. Had a bit of an accident to the top of the front panel. I will have to make it in to a bit of a rusty dent!

Just got back to doing a bit on the Hymek after a few weeks enforced absence in hospital!
Must find a way of making some air tanks for under the cab fronts as it looks wrong without any.
Have given it a little test run on some track and the radio control works well, this will enable me to run on non powered track in the garden.

In the last few days I added the other pair of wipers to the cab windscreen, made the from brass wire and soldered them up and with a bit of black paint does not look to bad. So next will have to find all the transfers for the loco. No one seems to do a set for 7mm Hymek also require the raised number for the cab side. Can any one help on recommending a supplier, as have not found any one who does them yet. The Fuel tank is not the right shape on the sides but I don’t think it notices much. Have to say its much harder to convert the Triang Hymek then I first thought it would be plus I did not aim to spend much on it! For what I want I think it is OK but it wont suit the perfectionists as not all the detailing is correct. For instance I have not changed the engine room window size. The hand rails on the cab ends are a bit to thick I should have used a thiner gauge of wire, they look ok till painted!

Today I have been making some air tanks for the Hymek, as it just looks wrong without them.

Its only course scale so I did not add much detail to the tanks they are just basic. They are made from a plastic pen and some Plasticard for the ends. Then mounted them with some more bits of plasticard and a quick coat of primer !
H0pe this is of intrest to anyone who may think of converting one of the Blue-Flyer's. They are fun to do in my opinion.

Finally got round to doing more wprk on the Hymak, Hospital has been geting in the way!
Bit more painting and I have started to try and give it some weathering. Never done any much before so not shure it looks right, some views would be nice, dont be shy. I am thinking of making it a model of the first Hymek as it original did not have horns on the cab roof but I think it later did get them moved to the roof. Any way its an excuse for me to leave them off.
May leave it as is and make it that D7ooo never got scraped but ended up on an imaginary private industrial railway and used for moving goods about.
Would love to know if any one is contemplating converting one of the old Big-Bigs in to a better O gauge representation.
This on so far has most likley not cost me more than £50 to do so a very cheep start in O gauge. and it even has a cheap radio control intended for a car and it works very well.

I have so far left the roof in grey primer as although wrong I think the all BR blue locos just look to blue and I liked it with the grey roof! As its not a BR engine at the moment it can have any colour scheme
Next on the agenda is weathering some of the Big-Big mineral wagons as they just look t0 plastic as they are!
Also I am contemplating making a micro railway to display and shunt it about on. Will have two tracks and a selector plate as I have a mass of Pico sm32 but no points. I know its not right but I will hide it under a load off ballast May make it like a coal yard , scrap yard or small preservation railway but haven't decided yet.

For the track somthing like this, I know its nothing new but its amazing how much room O gauge takes up. Having never tried to use it indoor!
The slector will be the length of track on the left of the photos this is can accommodate the Loco and two wagons. If I do get this project of the ground I will start a new Thread
