The 0-6-2T were subject of a well-known and extremely long lived Lilliput model, of course. No. 2 is currently working at Welshpool while the other steam loco shown must be No. 5. More here: Zillertal erfahren!

Just back from our hols. Due to a persistent period of quite strong easterlies, and the associated swell & chop, we holed up in Tréguier for a few days. The weather was ok for walking, and we found a couple of nice restaurants which we had not tried before.

The local Mairie has put up some panels with photos from earlier times, many of which show the Reseau Breton Chemins de fer des Côtes-du-Nord which served the port up to the early 70’s.

I hope they’re of interest.

This footbridge across the Guindy was rebuilt, the viaduct wasn’t visible

The current road bridge across the Guindy follows the alignment of the lattice bridge, the rail bridge abutments remain, sadly without their rather splendid castellated turrets

Building the new “Canada Bridge”. Note loco sheds at very top - see below!

This was a tidal mill, it is now a chandlery.

There are a couple of other features of Treguier of note, I mentioned the loco sheds, it still stands and serves well as the Philomenn brewery

The other site of note is a small standing stone erected to commemorate the “hydravion” base that was located just north of the confluence of the Guindy and Jaudy rivers. This was a joint initiative by the US and France to counter the u-boat threat in WW1

Sorry about the particularly poor photo here

There’s quite a bit of online info - herewith a sample

Hi. It's the "Chemins de fer des Côtes-du-Nord" and not the Reseau Breton. Hope you enjoyed your holiday here....Colin.

Thanks Colin, my mistake, now corrected.

Yes, I love Brittany!

Cheers

Very good, Martin, and very quick too! The photo is taken looking South East. The other portal is blocked, apparently by a rubbish dump :(

The blue line is the Hythe and Sandgate Railway and the dotted part is Hayne Tunnel.

If anyone wants more info about the railway, Brian Hart wrote a good book on the subject, and I can answer some questions.

I can't quite claim omnipotence, I know broadly where you live, there aren't many abandoned tunnels in rural SE England and I have Brian Hart's excellent book.

I should have spotted the distinctly Eastern Bloc unit hiding behind the new Skoda unit: Latvia, Google tells me. Looks cold!

Adam gets first prize!

fortunately, it was not windy, so as long as you stayed on the sunny side of the street, it wasn’t too bad.
The Daugava river froze over (again) on Thursday night. it had been black and ripply on Thursday, and was distinctly white and solid on Friday morning!

(and I should have spotted the “no photography” sign in the same picture!)
